Stichting Probos is committed to creating a healthy living environment for people and nature. Healthy and resilient forests are crucial for achieving this goal. Probos always puts the forest first and works hard to promote sustainable forest management worldwide.
Probos is a non-profit knowledge institute, established in 1965. Probos is strong at signalling relevant developments, identifying knowledge gaps, developing and collecting associated knowledge, and translating this knowledge into practical insights and tools for policy makers, forest managers, communities, timber traders, and nature conservationists.
The Probos team works project-based and combines a business attitude with its core values of promoting sustainable forest management worldwide. Its strong network of (project) partners increases the impact of Probos’ work.
The work is divided among four focal areas:
| 1. |
Data provisioning: |
| |
Probos is the data authority in the domain of forests and forest products. Collecting, processing, analysing and communicating statistics has been Probos' core activity for decades. |
| 2. |
Climate-smart forestry: |
| |
Probos develops and makes available practical (forest management-related) knowledge and tools contributing to climate-smart and resilient forests. |
| 3. |
More forests and trees: |
| |
Probos contributes substantially to improving the business case for forest (expansion) by developing and sharing knowledge, tools, experiences, and best practices. |
| 4. |
Sustainable forest-based value chains: |
| |
Probos increases the value of forests and the area of sustainably managed forests worldwide by (1) increasing the market share of verified sustainably sourced timber in Europe, and (2) facilitating value chains for verified sustainably sourced forest products and services. |
A Supervisory Board oversees financial policy and the general state of affairs of the foundation. An Advisory Board provides Probos with subject-related and strategic counsel.
