In September 2022, the Frisian Trees and Forests Strategy (co-authored by Stichting Probos) was adopted by the Provincial Council. This strategy is the regional interpretation of the National Forest Strategy and outlines how the Province of Fryslân aims to contribute to increased CO₂ sequestration, biodiversity and improve landscape quality.
Stichting Probos developed a protocol in 2024 to help the province smoothly transition from policy to implementation, and to allocate the available funding as efficiently and effectively as possible.
Stichting Probos is now supporting the Province of Fryslân in implementing the Trees and Forests Strategy, including:
- Contributing to and collaborating on the development of a user-friendly subsidy scheme and/or the adjustment of existing schemes.
- Drafting a framework for the forest revitalization agenda.
- Advising municipalities on how to organize forest expansion, including related procedures, permits, and costs.
- Coordinating with the province's nature and agriculture team.
- Assisting and advising stakeholders on how they can contribute to the implementation of the Frisian Trees and Forests Strategy.
