SURINAME CLIMATE SMART FORESTRY Program (CSF-P): a forest carbon project under the Verified Carbon Standard through reduced impact logging (RIL-C).
In a consortium led by Face the Future (FtF) in the Netherlands and in cooperation with Environmental Services & Support (ESS) in Suriname - commissioned by Conservation International (CI) Suriname - we are challenged to support the Republic of Suriname to investigate opportunities and build local capacity in the creation and marketing of forest-based carbon credits. The carbon emission reductions will be certified under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and the Climate, Community and Biodiversity (CCB) standards. The potential payments for ecosystem services (PES) that are based on climate-smart sustainable management of Suriname’s forests (RIL-C), may contribute to the efforts of Suriname and its people to conserve and sustainably manage their forests, and generate an income from its extensive (semi-)natural forest area, meanwhile making a significant National Determent Contribution (NDC) to the world’s combat to climate change.
